Hiking trails in Scheßlitz, around Burgellern Castle and in the Franconian Tuscany

On this page we have compiled various hiking suggestions for you. Some of them are official hiking and walking trails, others are found by us ourselves. We try to make sure that there is something for everyone, from the easiest walk for families with small children to the challenging bike tour to the Franconian Jura.

The first 11 hiking trails are part of the official hiking trail network of the city of Scheßlitz. All paths are newly signposted. You will find more information, e.g. about places to stop for refreshments, at http://www.schesslitz.de/wanderwege and in the official hiking flyer, which you can get on site from us, in the city administration, the gastronomy and the hotel business.

1st Route A: Gügel, Giechburg and Jewish Cemetery

We start at the town hall in Scheßlitz. First we follow the sign A to the left until we reach the street Altenbach. There we cross the road and walk left for 300 m in the direction of Zeckendorf. Now we turn right into Gügelweg. Passing a small chapel. We can already see the Giechburg from a distance. After 1.5 km the way leads us into the Burgholz and already after 200 m left on the Main-Frankenweg. Now we come to the Giechburg parking lot.
Here you can choose between a longer ascent to Giechburg or the Kreuzweg straight to Gügel. A visit of the Giechburg with its magnificent view is worthwhile. Both routes, Giechburg or Kreuzweg, meet again at the 6th Kreuzweg station. After about 0.5 km the pilgrimage church Gügel is reached. A visit to the sanctuary built on the rock is highly recommended. At the ramp to Gügel, Route A continues through Gügelholz in the direction of Zeckendorf. Once you have reached the state road, turn right and after about 200 metres turn left into an alpine path. A wonderful view awaits hikers to Gügel and Giechburg as well as to the whole Scheßlitzer Land. After about 500 metres we come to the Long Way, turn right and follow Route A to the Jewish Cemetery. Then you continue in the direction of Demmelsdorf. In front of the town sign Demmelsdorf there is a monument for the victims of Jewish citizens from Zeckendorf and Demmelsdorf. At the end of Demmelsdorf we return to the starting point on the footpath and cycle path to Scheßlitz.
