Born in Burgellern
The children of Burgellern Castle
Burgellern Castle was built as a residence in 1726 by Marquard Wilhelm von Schönborn, the cathedral provost in Bamberg from the family of the famous prince-bishops. After numerous changing owners, the castle finally went to the Bavarian state in 1936 and was used in the following years as an officer's school, for soldiers' recreation and as an NSV mother's home.
In 1944, Prof. Dr. Lüttge used Burgellern Castle as an outpost and cradle of more than 1300 children for fear of bombing.
